SOURCING

At district BATCH we are proud of the products and materials we source. Nearly every industry in our current manufacturing world is fraught with problematic environmental issues. We know our small company can’t solve huge global issues, but we also know that collectively we can make a difference.

Our 100% organic cotton is not only manufactured in mills committed to ethical conduct, but the fabric is printed with eco-responsible low impact dyes. Conventional dyeing and printing uses a myriad of toxins, including heavy metals and formaldehydes. This process requires large quantities of water to wash out the residues, which is then dumped into the local waters of the mills. Low impact dyes don’t require as much heat in processing, nor do they need toxic chemical to fix the color to the fabrics.

BEESWAX CANDLES

We make these lovely little votives in-house using a blend of local beeswax and beeswax that was originally hand carried home by the founder from Taos, New Mexico. We know the farmers, know the bees are happy, the wax is pure and the burn is CLEAN!

This candle is zero waste!

USE + END OF LIFE

Beeswax is compostable! We use pure cotton wicks that are coated with vegetable oil instead of crude oil, so these may be composted if any is left after burning. You can toss the metal tab at the bottom in the recycling.

MATCHES

Good things come in small packages.  Our color tipped matches are housed in glass with a cork stopper and compostable label.  A striker strip at the bottle’s bottom completes this handy, eco-friendly package.  Perfect for lighting our SMUDGE or BEESWAX VOTIVE.

WHAT'S INSIDE

Approximately 60 2" tall wooden matches

Glass jar with cork stopper is 2.5" tall and 1" wide

USE

Close the bottle with the stopper before lighting.

Keep away from children.

Do not store near hot surface or flame.

Make sure match is fully extinguished before discarding.

SUSTAINABILITY + REFILLS

Our matches are made from renewable materials in a facility that is investing in tree replanting.

We can refill the matches and strike pad! Send us a message that you'd like a refill at hello@districtbatch.com

If you choose not to refill your matches, and can't find another use for the container, you can peel the label, compost it with the cork, and recycle the glass.

RECYCLING PRO TIP

The rule of thumb for recycling glass is that an item must be at least 2" x 2" to be big enough to get sorted in a recycling facility. This bottle is borderline and would do best if thrown in a larger glass container. So if you do decide to recycle this - or any other small glass bottle- toss it in that spaghetti jar or kombucha bottle!

TEA STRAINER

There are so many good reasons to switch to drinking loose-leaf tea! First, many tea bags have plastic in them; the plastic doesn’t compost and cannot be recycled, also when you pour hot water on them, they release millions of micro plastics that we then digest when we drink the tea. Second, think of all the waste! The cardboard box, little paper tab and the bag itself, even if you can compost it, all go away if you buy bulk loose leaf- especially if you buy from a place that lets you bring your own container! Loose leaf tea is usually more affordable, and you can get creative making your own blends. Or just keep it simple.

Our individual strainer allows you to steep just one cup but can also accommodate a larger vessel if you like. The side mouth and handles are perfect for resting in teapots, mugs or glass bottles. The small lid acts as a tray for the wet strainer when you take it out.

This food grade stainless steel is easy to clean, won’t rust and dishwasher safe. Also, the mesh is very fine, catching all the loose-leaf tea.

CARE AND END OF LIFE

If tea stains occur, simply use baking soda dissolved in warm water to softly scrub the strainer clean. The strainer should last over 20 years! When it does come to the end of its life, simply put it in the metal recycling bin.

ROCK ISLAND SEA WOOL

Soap up with our bath size natural “wooly” sea sponge to gently cleanse your skin. These soft, dense sponges will produce a rich creamy lather. Pair with a District BATCH body bar, like our CHARCOAL + JUNIPER DETOX BAR soap for a luxurious bath or shower experience.

Our sea sponges are sustainably harvested off the Florida Gulf Coast by divers known to our supplier.   They are compostable and biodegradable.

SIZE

5"-6"

CARING FOR YOUR SPONGE

Before your first use, rinse with warm water and ring out a few times. Breath in that beautiful sea salt smell, it won’t last long!

Let your sponge dry thoroughly after each use.  It is advisable to disinfect natural sponges on a regular basis, usually every 2-3 weeks if used daily. If taken care of these sponges can last up to a year!

END OF LIFE

When you decide to retire these for use on your body, you can use them for cleaning before you compost them.

FRENCH GREY SALT SOAK

Detox and unwind your body and mind with our PINK GRAPEFRUIT + CYPRESS SALT SOAK. This is a concentrated, pure sea salt soak- two tablespoons added to a hot tub is all you need to melt the stress away. Our grey salt is hand harvested in France from nutrient rich sea water. The beautiful grey color comes from crystalizing on clay. Since ours is a pure salt soak you can choose to add common Epsom if you like. We recommend 2.5 cups per tub to truly feel the benefits.

SCENT PROFILE

Bright, uplifting pink grapefruit and bitter orange essential oils are rounded out with warm and rich cypress oil. This blend is slightly bitter, sweet and rich, like a craft cocktail!

PACKAGING AND COMPOST TIP

Our packaging and labels are compostable! There are not many truly compostable labels on the market, and we are proud to have sourced ours- they are Cedar Grove certified.

Did you know compostable items that are thrown in the trash do not compost the same way. In fact, it could take up to 100 years for them to break down, if they do at all.

INGREDIENTS

French grey sea salt, essential oils of: pink grapefruit, bitter orange, organic cypress, petitgrain and copaiba

CLOVE + BLACK PEPPER BODY BAR

Sweet orange oil mingles with spicy black pepper and the rich scent of clove. Such a good fall to winter smell. Comforting, warming and invigorating, this bar is full of creamy bubbles and long lasting lather.

INGREDIENTS: extra virgin olive oil^, distilled water, Fair Trade coconut oil^, Fair Trade shea butter, sodium hydroxide ( lye), raw kokum butter, sunflower oil^, castor oil^, babassu oil, Himalayan powder, kaolin clay, clove essential oils, orange oil, black pepper oil

GLACIAL CLAY MASK

Take a trip to the Southern Alps in New Zealand where our glacial clay is collected. It is some of the purest and rarest in the world because it's free from the five heavy metals that are commonly present in clay. This unique powder-to-clay mask is blended with superfoods like baobab and nopales cactus powder to create a nourishing and gentle cleanse for your skin. Our Glacial Clay Mask is perfect for sensitive skin that needs moisturizing as much as purifying.

WHY POWDER TO CLAY

If you look at the ingredient list for most pre-mixed clay mask (or MOST skin care), you’ll see the first ingredient is water. Water breeds problematic bacteria. In order to deal with this, harsh chemicals and dangerous toxins are used to stabilize the formula. Our dry product allows you to have a fresh and truly natural product with every use!

APPLICATION

Activate one teaspoon of powder with water or another liquid of your choice (try tea, honey or even fresh avocado!) and massage into facial skin. Let dry, rinse with warm water and follow with our Immortelle Face Tonic. May also be used as a mildly exfoliating daily wash.

INGREDIENTS

Ingredients: bentonite glacial clay, daucus carota root powder, adansonia digitata fruit extract, opuntia streptacantha (cactus) powder*, plukenetia volubilis seed powder^, rosa canina fruit powder^, aloe vera powder, GC-MS tested essential oil of boswellia carterii, daucus carota sativa seed oil    *wild crafted/^organic

SMUDGE

Try our twist on traditional smudge sticks.  We’ve swapped out white sage for black* and bundled it with palo santo, herbs and selenite. We have carefully selected only those ingredients that are sustainably sourced and chemical free.

From serious ceremony to simple cleansing, our smudge sticks stand ready to assist you in uplifting mind, body and spirit.

*White sage has become the bread & butter of the smudging industry and as such, has raised concern over the sustainability of current harvesting practices.  We’ve opted to use black sage instead and will continue to monitor best practices to ensure our smudge sticks reflect sustainably smart harvesting.

SCENT PROFILE

Black Sage is a highly aromatic herb with a sweet, cleansing scent.

Lavender adds a light, refreshing smell when burned.

Palo santo’s scent blends sweetness with subtle, uplifting notes of mint and lemon.

Check the SMUDGE page for more info.

SOAP TRAY

Hand made in small batches in the US, our soap tray offers a beautiful and natural way to extend the life of District BATCH soaps.

NO-CHEMICALS, NO-VARNISH, NO-LACQUER OR WOOD STAIN.

Our soap trays are made from wood harvested in the US and are not treated with any chemicals. Natural wood does need some maintenance. We recommend rubbing a food grade oil, like sunflower, olive or walnut oil into the wood before use. Occasionally the trays will warp if they get really wet. Give them a scrub and let them dry for a couple days and they will flatten out once again.

Pro Tip: Some customers like to cut their District BATCH soap in half. Allowing our soap (or any natural soap) to dry out between uses will extend the life as well. Rest the soap on these trays and our soaps will last a long time! (Customers say 4-6 weeks depending on use)
